A little late reporting this but I found 2 hens and one was huge like 20lbs. Only tree out of a dozen that had anything and both of those were almost too far gone. I bet we had to pitch half. That tree is a big white oak by a mostly dry creek bed with a fence through it. Good producer but I've never seen it where it produced the middle of Sept. Had to be that old? ?

he is in colorado with kathy now, visiting the oldest daughter. we fried up a good mess before he left. that one was 8 lb ,and picked another today 8 and 1/2 lb. also the last 12 lb. of paw paws. have 3 other hens I`m letting grow a little still.have my eye on two 2nd flush chickens too. been a heck of a year for us on the lost forty. gets even better. yesterday a petting zoo called,. over the summer they lost 7 pygmy goats to coyotes and 2 nights ago they finally killed the billy and really ripped him up bad. we set 4 traps and had the adult pair this morning. even the guys wife was jumping up and down she was so happy to see those 2 coyotes get what they deserved. I think if I let her and I had a ball bat with me she would have wanted to kill them herself. it was kind of f7unny, the husband got sick when I did the boot deal. she was clapping and cheering.

I always thought they came first in northern indiana, and them progressed south. do I have it backwards? that 12 lbs paw paws has grown to 21 lb. but this time they really are done as I looked over every tree real good. cked a big oak a few miles up the road that I got a big hen on 4 years ago. for 3 years in a row now, no hen. so I guess it died out or something. the tree is still alive so no idea why a hen one year and then never again.

It always seemed like they started north and went south, but the last couple years have been all screwy.

I went back to the same tree that had the early big one and found two fresh smaller ones today. That tree must have a secrete water source because none of my other trees are doing anything. We did get about 3/4" of rain yesterday and last night so maybe that will help but we need more to really get thing going for the mushrooms.

not mushroom talk ,but if you rub elderberry or spice bush leaves on your skin it is a natural mosquito repellent. just in case you are ever on that naked and afraid show.
