Man! checked some of my "hot trees" this weekend and all I found was a little one and 1 that had been dryed on the edges real bad from the wind. It was in a barn yard on the south side of a big white oak. John, slice the stump part into 1/4" pieces flat like a piece of bread and oil and season and throw'em on the grill.......and then grill some bluegill fillets to with it. ;D

Don't think I got 100lbs but I can bring a few good batches.
John, I'm glad you and Jeff are into'em. I think a lot of my trees will come in later. I seen that happen last year because I checked and checked with nothing and then in gun season found rotten ones.

We was starting to get dry down here and we got some rain yesterday so they may take off and grow some now. The last week they have been at a stand still ( the few little one that I had found and left to watch and see how fast they grow has just been at a stand still). Mark sorry you and the boss didn’t make it down to Jerry Joe's yesterday. We all had a good time. Think it was one of the best meets we have had in a few years.

Seems like things always pop up. I was going to try and make it but other family things came up that I didn't know about.

How does one go about freezing the hens? Finding more than I can eat at this time.

Don I am just cleaning them up and freezing them in freezer bags for now. Going to go back and put them in vacuum seal bags as I get time for long term storage. I also put some in the dehydrator and dried them to put in soups and sauces.

Do you put any water in them to freeze them? I would have thought just freezing would maybe ruin them, but then I don't have any idea or I would not be asking your thoughts. So far have not found anything near as big as the one that you found, but, they are not to bad a size. Do you find the best hunting in the hills or the bottoms. So far all mine come from the hills.

Don just put them in a zip lock bag and freeze or put them on a cookie sheet and freeze 1st and then put them in a zip lock bag or vacuum pack them. No water. I have been finding most of mine up in the hills but that is where my oaks are. The bottoms around here are mostly soft woods maple and so on. I did look a few times just because it was on the way but have not found any there yet. Have found some in fence rows that had old line trees in them 100 + years old.

I found several yesterday evening that had already dried up. One big one and several kinda medium sized ones. One out of the bunch was a keeper.
