I can't swear it's true but I've heard that if you pull one up, it will not come back. I always cut them off now. The first two I found and another place that was a stump with a ring of hens around it, I pulled them and that was 5 yrs ago. Never found another one there since so I'd say always cut them off and don't disturb below the ground.

I don`t know about pulling, we always cut them like mark. one thing I do know is I forgot to bring in the brass monkey last night and looked out this morning and there he was ,dead. died with his hands on his jewels.

those are getting far along. so eat or process them right away and next yearrtry to get to them a tad sooner. I`m surprised they are that far along as far south as you are. ours up here still have a day or 2 to go yet to be just perfect. after eating hens you probably won`t waste your time on little handfulls of morels next spring.

Bob they may be a little far along but there still tasty & they are in freezer as we speak . I will be there a little sooner next year. Mark you was right about having them with eggs just had me a omelet with them in it emmmmmmm emmmmmmm.
Bob I will still pick morels next spring too. Never pass up a good plate full of morels and fresh fish. I put 22 Qt bags full and 4 Gal bags in the freezer from that batch. And did not keep it all, had to throw away some of it mostly the base.
The biggest one of the bunch weighted in at 22 LBS. when I was walking out with it , It felt like 52 LBS going up and down the hills down here. ;D

THOSE BASES THAT ARE SOLID WHITE WITH LITTLE BLACK LINES THRU THEM, THOSE ARE THE BEST PART. SLICE ABOUT 1/2 "THICK AND COOK ON THE GRILL LIKE A STEAK, OR FLOUR AND FRY LIKE COWBOY STEAK. BEST PART IMO.

ps, best part is you go just back to the sane trees again next year. no more need to tromp around, just go get `em.

you just well go get the other 3 as it won`t keep them from coming up next year. the fungus lives in the tree, you just are like picking apples, it won`t hurt anything and new ones grow next year. you can dri or freeze them. or give `em to your mother in law if she promises to never try to move in with you.
