Spoke with Fur Harvester Auctions (Eddie) one that the Chinese, Russians, etc. talk with about upcoming needs, quanties, type, etc.
He said "he is getting calls from them" and seems like business as usual (in his eyes) at the moment. This is the busy time of year for the Chinese (garment makers, dressers, etc.) getting things finished and they have communicated with him about upcoming goods/needs.
Again "he has been getting calls"..not overwelming, but calls...
Calls about these items: Coon, Muskrat and some beaver (also seal, but we don't got them around here....lol)
He said the top end coon could be off 15-20% this year and low end small, off color, etc. hard sells........he did at the end of our convestation say"when the election is over and market stops going crazy that things could settle out in a hurry, but still possible slightly lower levels......
He also said if it settles out that top end coon could still bring last years levels, but again could be 0%-20% off. (last year when I spoke with eddie before the different sale dates) he was dead on in what the auctions were going to bring (meaning my coon within 1-2 buck avg. of auction price)
Eddie also believes that our harvest (coon) will not be 20% higher...(which early on figured with everyone gearing up after last season).
If the harvest comes in like last year (short supply) or falls even shorter, that it will favor our off colors and tougher sell items in a positive way if things were to line up (positive way, meaning sellable).
He said our mid-grade coyotes and flat reds have very little value at this moment and they still have some unsold from last year, other than that the warehouse is bare.
Remember, this was just 2 guys talking and is not an "official" market report.
I believe the glass is half full......but local buyers will be very cautious in the early season until the international auctions fire off......(can't blame them)
Gibb (our FHA expert on the site) could go in more detail as we have spoke on the phone also in detail about the markets. He is working with us on a few projects and getting us prepared for meeting with our shippers/possible shippers and clueing us in on what is what for this season.....
