Any hen in the woods around here would choke to death from the dust.

I think we will have some too, maybe. did get .85 last week end. nothing but wind from the "big" hurricane. forcast id nada zip rain af far as they can forcast, a week at least. was it ababy doyle. I see they start out looking like a golf ball size brain and then grow to hen-hood in a week or two if moisture stay up. they lock up your `seng thief yet?

We need some rain down here to get anything going. Sure a heck ain't short on wind. I'm surprised nobody has posted about the storms we had with 75+winds for several hrs. With a good rain and a temp drop, our hens should start too. Congrats Doyle and if we get some rain, I'll check some of my trees too and add to the pot.

Bob we liberals don't lock up thief's we just slap there hands. He hasn't went to court yet,the law reads that he can get 3 mo. in jail and up to a 1000$ fine.Any bets on what he gets? We had 5.5" rain here and a foot just north of us.We have had some 45 degree nights so the hens should come on now.

Sad but that is about it.He will still be able to keep on digging also.Bob the hen was decent size al ready. They do start small and grow but with all the rain up here it has grown fast.I picked it today and it filled a walmart bag.

as my buddy says everytimera gal walks by, " not bad looking hen!" . actually it is a large fall mushroom that grows at the base of old oak trees. sometimes 20-30 lb even. tastes near identical to a spring morel but meaty.

We've had lots of rain down here in NC this summer Bob. Just wanted to see what one looked like to see if I could find any around here. I'll try the internet to see what I can find.

pig- They are just starting in northern IN, southern In in a couple weeks. I'm guessing in NC it would be late Oct- early Nov.
I think it was Bob that told me years ago.... look for the biggest oak trees you can find, if parts of the tree is starting to die, so much the better.

those are some dandys. my wife gives me heck for picking them a tad late. they are chewy solid white in the middle and that part is good fried or on the grill. makes a sandwich that has a meat cosistency. the "feathers" of the hen can be pulled apart by hand and rolled in milk and flour and fried, and to me the taste is almost identical to the morels, but not exact. anyway, they are very good.

The pick on my tailgate would make you cry....they were too far gone...had all kinds of mites in'em. Last year that same site didn't get any rain and nothin' showed. Maybe this year they'll be back I hope. I have about 15 spots to check now so in a good year we could wrack'em up.
