I have not dug golden seal or ginseng in about 10 years so I'm kinda out of touch with the market. I know where several good patches are but I'm not gonna dig if the market is down. The man I used to sell to in Missouri is in bad health and no longer is able to buy. All roots I mess with are wild root.

If you live in missouri I can't buy your seng unless it is certified. Should be worth about 400 or more a lb. The dang stuff is getting a new price to it this yr. and don't nobody know exactly what to pay. I can buy seal from you and would give 22 per lb. or a little more. If you want to sell keep in contact with me, the mkts are both kinda mixed up at this time.

last I heard seal market was shot, so I guess while still not great, must have come back up some. weibke in wisconsin is starting wild good `seng at $650 and says he thinks may go up. but here again, unless an indiana dealer lisc and certified, no way to sell to him. all the country prices I hear are that 4-450 range for starters. sounds low to me, after last years $800 figures on top end, but I`m not the guy shelling out the cash either. my guess is no one knows yet what the wet spring and now growing droughts will do to the dig. be a good time to be cautious if a guy was a buyer.

Bob you must know a different Weibke in Wisconsin than I know. I have been friends with the Weibke clan for quite some time. Jason tells me that they are starting off at 400 that is unless they changed their mind in the last few days.

word I got was from a digger they pay very well ,as he does about 25 lb dry good big wild stuff every year. I believe him. he got 8 or 850 last year. it`s the same weibkes. that 400 you heard may be for the 4 oz guys. only fair a small guy gets less. I predict (lol!), if it doesn`t drought out ( has here already) over a wide area that it will end up 650. if it droughts bad again, i look for the 8-850. I see no reason for anyone to sell early, unless starving to death. I doubt it will drop, lets put it that way.

I dig in Arkansas and I'm not really starving to death, yet. Seriously, I dont really do it for the money.I enjoy being out in the woods away from work where I can relax and enjoy myself looking for mother natures little treasures. I just hate to disturb it if its not doing well on the market. Ive got one patch of seng that i have watched for @ 15 years that has never been touched as far as i can tell. Due to its location I'm pretty sure It will be around for years to come. I may try to get a pic to post next time i get the chance to get out and about. It is something to see. If the price gets up @ 650 or so I may dig some this year but probably will wait till next year if it doesn't. I have been looking around for coyote and fox (live) market also. Arkansas is allowing the sale of live yote and fox this year for a small fee of $25 for the permit. Used to take them alive just for kicks. A bobcat was always the most challenging to get in a cage . anyhow, I will keep in touch to see what the status is on seng prices .
