It seems like gut piles get cleaned up real quick. Be interesting to see what you catch.

Interesting to me had a single old female and that's it... Put in couple more 1/2 mile away by a big drainage. Touch and go there one set probably catch a bunny/ coon. Not crazy excited about them close to road but sign is there

more than one coyote makes a whole gut pile disappear. often they will drag it off 50-100 feet to where they feel safer if the pile is small. I`ve seen them clean up a whole deer right on an interstate berm where they have learned traffic is no consequence. where they are pursued a lot they will pack it or drag it off to cover. I`f wired quite a few road kills to my bmnper with #9 wire and drug them far enough to a safe setting location. they will "re-find" it fast. once in the west in broad daylight saw a cat slink off a roadkill deer on the road berm. came back 15 minutes later and there he was back again, so just set it and left for 15 more minutes. sure enough , came back and there he sat. cats are dumber than possums. coyote at least wait till dark.

Up to 3 at the pile & 1 at the drainage. Also a coon pullout there as well. Was going to add more but times been a issue. Just tinkering is all I'm doing at this point. Been chasing deer with the boy. Waiting on crops to get out

Farmer called me midday to tell me I caught a coyote. Wasn't in there at 5 am. Reset it and added another 5 ft away. Had another set in place-but added this one closer..

Sounds like you're having fun.
It's in their nature to drag food away and eat. We had a free range pet coyote pup when I was a kid and it would never eat dog food at the dish. It would always grab one piece and move several feet away, eat it, walk up and grab another.

my dead pile went dead, no dragging or eating. I wondered what happened why they didn`t come back last night. then 1/2 mile away I see a dead deer in the road ditch hind end ate out fresh. lol, so I moved it to MY pile. I just hate that when some one else is feeding better than me.

Checked today didn't think it was going to get that cold last night and traps froze in. Thought that they were fine for couple more days but no go. Remade a few see what happens. Pulling them Monday & rat trapping. Should get around 200-50 but I'll have to work to get them. Might punch in a coyote set or two at that spot see what time allows.

I didn't think there were 200 rats left in all on Indiana. Only a few here and there in SE Indy. Back in the 70's early 80's they were thick around here. Didn't know how good I had it. Guard that spot like your first born and good luck. If it's a secure spot I would let them go a couple more weeks. Only the best grades are making the cut these days.

Well with work , kids, working wife, & life's happenings I get this week. Hadn't checked on my spot till yesterday and if my body can do it should be 500+ rats. Have to buy new marine battery. Old one crapped out last season. 1 1/2 mile canoe ride before I get to the rats. Boy can't go with till Thursday but he'll have fun rest The rest of the week...

I can't imagine 500 rats. People in this county can't believe I catch 35 a year because there aren't any. Will set some colony traps in a few days like bob and don wolf taught me, in places were there aren't any rats. Just for the grandkids. Might even set 2 or 3 220s in coon trails. Just for the grandkids!

Stopped by my buddy's shop Tuesday. There is a couple coon super highways coming down off the ridge to the floodplain. Mind started spinning but then thought why?............... Think I'll take a closer look Thursday am. The itch that never goes away.
