Can anyone share some tips on finding hens? Been stomping around the green briers I mean woods with no luck! From what I have read is large oak trees but that hasn't paid off.

Big oaks that are starting to decline. Rotten spots, hollow ones etc. It was real dry earlier and found just a couple here. Rain and cooling down now, so Im hoping for a second flush here anytime.

so far all our good trees are barren this year. trees that havn`t failed for 35 years. hoping for a 2nd flush here too but getting late now. found a couple early for the cook out and not a single ones since then. just a bad hen year. no lions mane either this year.

So what's the timeline on them growing? Or is all weather permitting? Your cook out is where I first had them and have been looking for them ever since. They are very delicious!

They sure are good eating, I'll be keeping my eyes open for them next year.

Concentrate searching old fence lines, log roads, cemeteries or anywhere damage occured to a large black or white oak and sometimes red oak. I am in southern IN and have found them up to the first of December. First hard freeze pretty well ends the season. When you find one, cut it off, don't pull it out.

Thank you all. I may give it one more shot after the rain Sunday/Monday.

Checked several trees today and zippo! This might be a lean year.

Worst year I've had for Hens. We had enough rain to get at least a moderate crop but didn't happen.

I did some looking over the weekend while deer hunting to see if I found any old dried up frozen ones. Nothing.
