I havent looked much yet, but found a small one yesterday. Doyle always said 10 days after the first several nights in the 40s.
It doesnt look real healthy, like it sprouted then this hot weather hit. Im going to keep an eye on it.

been watching our hen trees and nothing here yet. waddel is coming to the cook out and is hoping someone has a hen by then. we are at .3" of rain all of sep.t so far and 1" for the whole month of august, so not looking good here. I am taking a bucket of water to a chicken today. don`t know if that helps or not but going to try.

I found 2 more hens on Saturday that had been up a while. Plenty of rain now, maybe get another flush.

we ate a nice one I found at the cook out, and sold one more. threw away a huge one and a small one that were gone to far by the time I found them. don`t know if it works but didn`t throw them away, I smooshed them around several old hollow or damaged oaks. figured try. they were a first flush and hoping for a 2nd flush since we finally got rain. did find and sell some oysters and chickens. weird year here with the heat and drought then finally rain. nathan was pretty excited to sell 3 lb of red cedar berries for $100. hew was going to mAKE HIS FORTUNE PICKING UP WALNUTS BUT THE BUYER JUST 8 MILES AWAY WENT OUT OF BUSINESS. HE COULD HAVE PICKED UP SEVERAL TONS JUST ON OUR PLACE.

I have done the same with scraps from hens and lions mane. Not sure it will work, but it didnt cost me anything. What are cedar berries used for?

supposedly in curing meat. seems whacked to me but we sure sell them for good $. he even sold 2 lb of acorns for $20. get this, 2 qts of ground cherrys for $15. that like 2 double hand fulls...still in the hulls. maybe 3 minutes off one plant. all this won`t buy a new caddy but is sure fun to sell stuff that otherwise has no value. he is learning good life lessons.

Good life lessons for sure, and better money than I made digging bloodroot at his age.

I remember once digging about a 22" pack basket crammed full and pushed down to fit more in ,full of blood root, bet 25 lbs. the stuff dries about 7 to one and ended up with 3-4 lb at $3 a lb. that was the last blood root I ever dug. sold the blood root, maybe 30 lb dry of yellow root and 3 lb. dry of seng the same year to tom bond. he is dead now. I went to his open casket funeral a couple years ago and he was holding a `seng root in his hand laying in the casket. it was summer, surprised the dnr didn`t try to arrest a dead guy for seng out of season.after the dnr coyote debakle nothing would surprise me.
