we are in bad drought up here now. was wet all thru july and then shut off completely. going on 6 weeks now with just a few sprinkles. no `seng berries and most `seng down or going already. no mushrooms either. hoping one of those hurricanes makes it. losing a lot of our tree seedlings too. started out looking like a million bucks this spring. just one of those years. on the upside we have sold several hundred lbs. of paw paws already and will sell several more. rest assured rain will come with a vengance once land trapping opens.

you need bees to get pollination, and on top of that you need to train them to pollinate... with a toothpick of honey, as paw paw blooms have hardly any interest to bees unless the bees are trained. in the circus folks train lions and tigers, we train bees.

Add that to Bob's resume, bee trainer. A man of many talents no doubt about it.

at the cook out I`ll have to tell the story about mowing last spring and hit a swarm on an over hanging limb with the tracoer roll bar. about basketball size. turns out those bees weren`t trained too well. I did prove an old man can still do the 1/4 mile dash in olympic gold medal time

here they are either real big, or little tiny golf ball size. not much in between. always looks like less than the year before and then ends up the same or more. they hide pretty good to begin with. if they are in heavy shade won`t be many, if any. kill the over story trees and you will have bushels. walnut juglone doesn`t bother them a bit, as most of mine are inter planted with walnut
