I may try some. I forget, do you just boil or steam? I had a mess of ramps a week or so ago.

you cab boil but we like in a skillet with butter and cook down. you need a big bag to get a couple small bowls. little salt on them and more butter. they end up look like cooked spinach but they don`t taste the same at all. you`d think they would taste bad, like dirt or tree leaves. uh uh! you try it and you won`t believe it. that good.

kathy has been picking several walmart bags full every day lately. she is freezing some and drying some and we are eating lots of it. she could tell better than me but she puts it in a fry pan with butter and a tad of ground garlic. when it cooks down we put it in bowls and I do salt and more butter. she just does a dab of salt. you know me, I use lots of salt and lots of butter too. put my socks and t shirts on inside out half the time too.

mushrooms, MUSHROOMS... you son of a gun! this is the first year ever we never found a single one. seems we always hit a dry spell just at the wrong time.I`ve never ate pokeweed. I`ll have to try some. on the nettles, kathy only cooks the leaves and the tip end, not the stems. the stems are ok, just tougher is all.

I noticed the stem was a little tough. I found two small patches of the big yeller morels in the last week. Not many found around here this year, but it sounded like down south there was qite a few.

I hope sam or someone that cares will be looking after his place. also hope the wardens are keeping an eye on it. I don`t know his wifes plan but if she sells the woods/farm someone is going to get a place like no other in this state. there are folks that would appreciate his woods and farm.

Doyle was a true conservationist in my eyes. His farm(s) were a labor of love. He had a vision and worked hard to bring it to life. I never failed to learn something whenever we spoke. At the last cookout I sat listened to Doyle, Sawmiller and Ronny talk limber,logging,roots...........can't learn that from any book. I miss his posts.

if his place is for sale, and wasn`t 100 miles away I`d buy it in a heartbeat, to continue his legacy. I hope someone closer carries it on for him.
