Anybody out there that has had any experience with FMJ?? I tried it last year, but the jury is still out. Don't know if it was my limited knowledge/experience, or the FMJ, but I had several sets dug up(coyote), along with a friend who also used it. When we compared notes, we had bedded the traps solid, used different gloves, pan tension, etc. so I wonder about the FMJ. Any thoughts???

I have used paints before with no problems but there a pain to get of a trap so have just went back to wash and wax no need to paint or dye. Lots of reason why traps get tripped you need to look close at the are and learn why.Bait lure to rotten and they will roll on it or may just get lucky.

I have used FMJ for about 5 years and don't have any complaints. The only dig outs I had were your common coon, skunk and occasional grey fox digging around the set, or deer springing the trap.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm brand new to trapping (lic 3yrs), and there is so much to take in... kinda like trying to get a drink from a fire hydrant. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't using something that would lessen the odds of connecting.

When I painted or used cold dips, I did mine in the SPRING...like March and let em hang in a tree till season. Never had an issue. Newly dipped and took to the field,,,yeah, you'll get a few diggers.

I always car wash and let dry then wax. no problems ever. often a short cut is only a short cut, not better, and usually worse. often, as was said ,coon or skunk feel around in loose dirt, flip up one jaw or flip the trap. later a coyote comes by and digs out the hole and leaves a track and gets credit for being a digger. very very few are real diggers. if they are "smart" they never mess with you, or do a kick back 5 feet out front. or work a hole from the back.
