I know nothing about shrooms, but I happened up on this in the woods yesterday while turkey hunting and it caught my eye... Growing on a dead oak tree, no gills on the bottom.. After looking around on the Interweb I'm about 99% sure it's a chicken of the woods, BUT, seems awfully early to me?? So, is it a chicken?? Oh yea, this in SW Mississippi...

YES, YES AND YES. AS FAR AS i KNOW CHICKENS ARE THE ONLY ONE THAT GROWS ORANGE AND LAYERED LIKE THAT. IF YOU EAT IT AND DIE DON`T BLAME ME, BUT IT SURE LOOKS LIKE A CHICKEN TO ME. UP HERE WE GET $10 A LB WHOLESALE ND $20 RETAIL. IT WEIGHS HEAVY TOO, SO A GOOD FIND. PICK IT EARLY BEFORE IT GETS WOODY. SLICE ROLL IN FLOUR AND FRY AND YOU`LL THINK YOU ARE EATING CHICKEN BREAST MEAT. i`VE FOUND THEM MID SUMMER AND LATE SUMMER.
