1 from a furbuyer in WI and one from a full time trapper from MO. Both were very concerned about some rumors about the muskrat market /market in general

Checked out claims today from the guys that called...
One was that Groney had reduced his price on rats because they can't move them and are sitting in warehouse.
Answer to concerned: groney does this every yr. Starts muskrats high on the first run. Word gets out and everyone brings the bags of muskrats on second run and then the bs story is told and he then buys em a couple bucks less (as he paid to high on first run to get the fur flowing to him). he does the same on coon yr after yr.
next was China's Fur tariff....yes, there is a tariff and yes, there is some shading things that go on in China to get fur to market. But this does not effect our wild fur as much as the tariff is cheap. A $10.00 raccoon would end up being $13.00 bucks. They (China) are investigating Ranch mink being brought in the country by shady means and some arrest/convictions seem to be coming in the near future.
This is all second had info to you, so take out of it what you will

Yes the rat market is weaker. I was told to drop my prices this morning. Something funny going on. It ain't Groney causing it either.

Not that I'm anyone special, no crystal ball or anything. I just don't believe rats are going to drop, just sayin'.

Agree low catch. FHA & NAFA sold out.
low catch = low inventory + demand = good price
That's how it's suppose to work.

I agree with Tim, seen it happen many times. As far as low catch ? In MO I seen more trappers this year than I have in the past 10 years. I heard we had well over 10,000 coon at our sale a week ago.

If guys hit 'em hard (like we know they do) guys put excellent numbers of coon in their truck I bet, even in the crappy weather we had. I had a crappy year, I know I suck at trapping and I can only get better LOL!
