FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 9th, 2010
Due to the increased interest in beaver castor, compounded with the below normal production of beaver, Fur Harvesters Auction Inc. will be no longer offering castor for “PRIVATE TREATY SALES”.
Many of you will remember that North Bay sold castor on auction years ago. In order to find out the true market value of this important by-product of your beaver catch we will be offering all castoreum at auction.
We have a data base of castor buyers dating back several decades and all of them will be contacted prior to our last sale of the season, June 2nd, 2010, and given notice to attend.
The situation today is comparable to the late 1980’s when North Bay sold castor for well over $100.00 on auction. At this time all indications point to a strong demand for your castors. WE INTEND TO FIND OUT JUST EXACTLY HOW STRONG THE MARKET IS ON OUR CLOSING SALE OF THE SEASON. www.furharvesters.com/pdf/pressrelease-feb09.pdfRespectfully Mark Downey Chief Executive Officer Fur Harvesters Auction Inc.

That greaat news for trappers, but expect lure prices to go up. I dont have many beaver here, but what castor I had is up there.
Was it Gibb or someone who once said that castor price will only go so high, as lots of buyers will go to synthetic?
