Here are the predictions for the upcoming February 19th auction held by Fur Harvester Auctions.
Muskrats- Muskrats will continue to strengthen from the outstanding FHA January sale. The Chinese orders appear to be very deep and if the ranch mink prices improve as expected, muskrats will keep getting stronger.
Wild Mink. I thought wild mink would have done better on our January sale, I still think we will see a major advancement and I think it will happen in the upcoming February auction.
Otter - Expect otter to continue improve. We saw a nice increase in January and I expect this was just the beginning.
Fisher - Lt Browns will attract the most interest. Buyers will be paying a premium for better quality pelts.
Coyotes - Good Quality Westerns will see a major jump. Production is low, and demand is far greater than current supply. Good quality Easterns from heavy sections will also benefit from this renewed interest. Low grades will see NO interest.
Raccoon- FHA had a very successful January sale for better quality, heavy skins that had good colour (color). They stuck to values (no fire sales) on the off colours and sold very little of this type. Since the January sale they have moved over 30000 off coloured skins at our values. I expect clearances will continue to improve. I don't expect any huge increases in price as silver fox prices were flat in Helsenki earlier this month.
Red Fox - Easterns saw a major jump in January. They should do well again this February. Clearances for Centrals will be good at recent established price levels. Cross fox will do well.
Beaver - This item is a little more challenging. Certain types will do very well, however we don't see much improvement in demand from the Montreal/ New York fur market. Demand will have to come from China and perhaps Greece. Castoreum will continue to sell well, perhaps even see some advances.
Marten - Dark colours will see the most demand and I expect there will be a substantial price difference between darks and pales. Overall prices will improve over last year. Prices for Russian sable improved 20% this year.
Lynx -Again we will see a big difference between AB colour and CD colours. Overall demand will improve.
Cats - Western cats with good bellies should do very well and could see a major advance. Commercial sections will be more difficult but should start to recover.
We are told American Legend is expecting one of their largest buyer attendance ever. With the completion of the February sale FHA will have had three consecutive auctions since there competitor had their last. The shippers are riding the rising market wave up and were paid on a timely bases. The competitor shippers will be waiting for their cheques (checks) well into April.
FHA will be leaving for Seattle this coming Thursday. You can also watch the sale online but you have to register with ALC first. They have made some internal improvements so should be able to get sale averages out sooner.
