Chic Andres formally announced during the National Council Meeting about a project that the FTA is embarking upon for next year. I will try to explain it in a little more depth so I don't have to answer so many of you in PMs.
The FTA is sponsoring the "The Management Advantage" TV show on The Outdoors Channel next season. TMA (The Management Advantage) has 13 shows, each show airs three times each week (two times). At the end of the thirteen show run the schedule then repeats itself again to run for a total of six months. Each of the individual 13 shows air a total of six times for a total of 78 viewings over a six month time frame.
The Outdoors Channel is currently being supplied to 28 MILLION homes across the nation.
By sponsoring the TMA the FTA receives many benefits, the biggest being a 2 minute "segment" in each show that the FTA plans to use promoting trapping and the need for trapping. These segments will include a variety of topics aimed at different audiences.
For an organization with limited financial resources like the FTA this is a MAJOR project.
The Management Advantage show is all about managing the resource and better stewardship of the land that we use. With any luck this will be a long and fruitful relationship between the TMA and the FTA.
Look for further updates on this project in your Fur Taker Magazine.

while preparing for my new role next year if elected as GO I am volunteering to work with the committee and Roy Greenfield to coordinate and communicate with the affiliates and chapters about this program. Wanted to ask a small group of you (so only a few of you read this) and get some input: If you had a choice What message would you think a non trapping, consumptive user of wildlife (hunter, fisher, etc) needs to be told about trappers or trapping? If you had one message to put on TV to a viewer audience of Hunters and land managers what do you want to tell them?

That trapping is a benefit to them.
Thanks, Tim for your work on this. You, too Robert. You too other Tim.

I thought how Robert talked about how the coon effect the turkey population and then showed the coons running deer off from feeders was right on track. These guys hunt, and showing how trapping helps that is a good angle. I read how much of the fawn population we loose every year and it is way higher than I expected. So if you tie in how these animals are getting to the animals they want to hunt they should be more supportive. Thats just my thoughts.

How trapping helps control the spread of disease, balance's out the predator base vs the prey base such as what Delta Waterfowl does with ducks, etc.
For a non hunting / trapping group id bring up the fact that steel traps were used to relocate many specie's such as river otter, wolf, etc. into area's where they historically lived and steel traps are still used to today to protect endangered species from predators and do research on.

Many hunters and fishermen consider consumptive use of renewable resources as part of their reason for hunting and fishing. Let's try to play on that angle along with conservation of those resources.

Tim, I have a very good DVD produced by Delta Waterfowl talking about the advantages of predator control on ducks nesting areas. If you have not seen this I can give it to you at our convention. Stu
