Got mine today and went straight into the trash. I agree with Bob, why cooperate with DNR when they refuse to with us. Anyway, anyone with any commen sense should realize unless you get 100% participation and honesty from every single person who trapped in IN and know each persons trapping ability the data will be skewed. The whole survey thing is a joke, if the DNR says they are using these surveys to determine seasons, bag limits, etc...well that is just plain scary. They are making decisions based on a hand full of trappers reporting their catch....I don't think so or at least I hope they aren't. They are simply using this as a tool to say, hey trappers look your input is important, we are on your side. I deal with statistics in my job and will be the first to tell you that you can make statistics look any way you want when you have an agenda. The only way statistics show the truth is when the data is 100% honest, the sample size the data is taken from is mathmatically balanced and all variables are known. Think about it people, the survey basically asked how many traps did you use, how long did you trap and how many did you catch....Well, I can give my neighbor who knows nothing about trapping 100 traps and tell him to go try to catch coyotes for three weeks. Knowing nothing he sets the traps for the three weeks and yields a big fat 0. Does this mean the coyote population is on the decline or that there are no coyotes in the area? No, it simply means he don't have a clue what he is doing. Give those same traps to Bob, give him the same amount of time and trap the same area. Now Bob catches 100 coyotes, does that mean that all of the sudden coyotes moved into the area? Point being those questions on that survey tell you nothing unless you know every single variable of the data. It's a joke people and you simply waisted 10 minutes of your life filling out the stupid thing.
