So your the one I keep gettin called out for?!LOL! I've been called out 3 times in the last two weeks because of ATVS riding on or around the tracks. I took a train ride from Bell Foutaine OH to Avon In and I bet I seen atleast 2 dz yotes hit on the tracks. You'd think they would be smart enough to get out of the way of a 60 mph freight train!

LOL! I wont tell anyone! Just a side note for everyone though..........The class 1 RR are really startin to crack down on trespassers on the tracks. W/ national secruity threats the federal government is really puttin pressure on the RR to report and prosicute anyone on RR property. RRs own atleast 50' from the center of the tracks on both sides. In some cases it's more than that. They are now talkin about puttin on secruity jobs and having people patrolling the tracks 24/7! I'd just hate to see an outdoorsmen get in a bad situation. Last month a guy had his atv impounded and he was charged w/ trespassin in Anderson IN. The guy was claiming that since there weren't any signs posted he didn't know it was private property.........the FEDERAL officer I spoke w/ about it last week stated that he doesn't have a no trespassing sign on the front door of his house but it's obvious it's private property. A guy needs to know that these class 1 RR are federally mandated and policed.........they're just like the airlines. I guess they figure they can do what they want.........and they usually do!
I'm not givin you a hard time yoteskinner........I would have done the same exact thing!! I'm just tryin to make guys aware.

There are 4 class 1 RR in the US. CSX (the RR I work for), Norfolk Southern, BNSF, and the UP (union pacific). Basically they are the 4 biggest RR in the country. They all have "signaled" track and are the RR that "terriorists" would target. Indiana only has CSX and Norfolk Southern tracks. But keep this in mind also..........the smaller "short line" RR such as; INRD, Indiana Southern, I and O are also steppin up there security as well. They are also mandated by the FRA (Federal Railroad Adminastration). The FRA really pays most of their attention to the class 1 RRs but most of the shortlines eventually ties into the class 1 RRs. To make it all easier to understand........the RRs are no different than the airlines. The only difference is alot of the RR tracks are out in the country and they can't cover that many miles of track all the time. But nonetheless the penalties of messin w/ the RR ie...........tresspassin, threats, or physical damage are much the same. If the wrong personnel caught an individual walkin along the RR tracks it would be no different than that same person walkin down the middle of a runway at an international airport. I come across people on the tracks everyday and kindly inform them that they are tresspassin and they need to find a different avenue of travel but it a FRA man sees them he may arrest/prosecute that same individual! I just hate hearin stories of a "good ol boy" out lookin for shrooms or bunny huntin gettin charges brought against him.........this does happen!! The RR asked me to trap some beaver earlier this year that were daming up a creek under a bridge, causin problems on the tracks. Keep in mind I had permission (as an employee/ only way your gonna get it) to get rid of 'em. I went down there only to find the place already set! I told my bosses the deal. They called the DNR, had the traps removed, and actually had authorities set the place up the catch the tresspassers. Like I stated earlier.........be aware of where your at and keep in mind that people are out there lookin these RR over all the time and you don't want to get caught doin something you shouldn't be!

A guy that works for a railroad told me that they hit dogs all the time at night.
The dogs start running away from the train straight down the tracks and won't or can't swerve left or right, out of the way.
He said once they start going they just stay between the tracks until they get hit.
Coyotes behave the same I guess.

that is the same priciple with arial gunning of coyotes. the coyote tries to out run the plane in a straight away, and of course he can`t. if it`s open countryand no rocks or trees or holes, he is dead. period, no chance for escape. the little red fox instead dodges right , then left, thus is not arial gunned as easy. he requires a helicoptor and rarely worth the effort as an adc target in the open western sheep ranges. a good trapper or denner on the ground is needed for red fox control, as they are a serious issue at lambing time. I`ve found as many as 20 lamb heads on a red den. that`s same as a $1,000 loss to the rancher, assuming all made it to the feedlot.
