Lonnie Phillips has stepped down as ISTA President
Lonnie and I haven't always seen eye to eye on issues and or the way things have been done, but I do respect his servious for trappers across the state and the motivation he brought to those around him.
We wish you well from the Rose family

I do think that Lonnie's heart has always been in the right place and wish him the best. Hopefully new leadership will strengthen the ISTA. Mike

From Lonnie's site, dated yesterday.
"I wanted to tell everyone effective today I stepped down and resigned as the president of the Indiana State Trappers Assoc. I have personal issue going on at home and my family needs me more that the ISTA. I can not give the ISTA the time and dedication that it needs from me.
This was a very difficult thing for me to do but my family needs me.
I will still keep my talk forum up and running and I will be available for questions via telephone or email.
Ron Elliott is the VP and he will be taking over the duties of the president. His name and phone number is listed in the Trapper predator caller magazine and on the web site.
Lonnie"

Bob, trapping is over in Indiana when Indiana trappers stop trapping.

in fact I`d say the coyote harvest probably dropped 75-90% this year. oh, the hide sales stayed the same. but we all know they are a drop in the bucket to what was being taken alive by hundreds of trappers across the state. the truth is the dnr hasn`t a clue the thousands and thousands of live coyotes that left indiana annualy thru quite afew trappers and major players, in years past. Just think of the mess their gonna have after a few years. Thousands more to raise pups, multiply that by years. The DNR about to get a lesson in the magic of compounding. Good thing they got goverment jobs.

The protection of coyotes by our DNR to any extent has me scratching my head?
Don't want us to use any part of a coyote taken out of "their" season dates? Don't want us to keep hides year round (must sell them within 15 days after season)...putting us at the mercy of a market that doesn't want them at this time. The attack on the live coyote market?
So again, Protect Coyotes?........sure seems that way to me...it doesn't seem they want to talk about anything that would help trappers have an incentive to remove the coyotes...won't listen, don't want to know, etc......
I know the DNR reads this website daily, so I ask this.....
If you (DNR) are interested in seeing trappers control the Coyote population and are open to idea's/thoughts that would help.....please contact me and we could get the ball rolling on some options and steps that could help........ My number is 812-343-9066
I await to hear from you........

I don't think DNR has any real problems with trapping. I think there is a real problem over the idea of someone making money at it.
INDNR "appears" to prefer "sport" trapping as opposed to trapping as a business. Just like they have no problem with sport hunting or sport fishing. Make a dime at hunting or fishing and they are going to break out in hives.

How many live market trappers do we think there were in Indiana?

How many? If there was only one they deserve support from other trappers and the DNR.

You can point your finger at Hupfer and Carter. Those are the guys that are handing out the a$$ kissing or a$$ kickings. I talked to Tim about this issue on Friday in Indy at the Deer and Turkey Expo. Mike Crider has always been an alli to trappers. PERIOD!! He has to be getting pressure from some one higher up and thats these two. ( Of course they are getting pressure from other states and this is the quick fix) It's more then obvious that ISTA has been too busy lining their pockets and let this pass. The only problem is WE as trappers are too lazy to show up at these dam meetings. The only thing govt' sees or recognizes is head counts. ( I've been in local Gov't for about 5years now) People show up they start to get squeemish. If there ever was a chance to save this its at that meeting. I know I have to work, or why? go let DNR deal with it or some other lame azz excuse BOTTOM LINE get off your azzes and show up............. PERIOD!!!! Don
