just wondered where every puts it and why, if there is a reason why.
personally i put mine at 2:00 - 3:00, no special reason, just habit i guess.
think i'll try at 12:00 awhile and see, what happens, if anything.
what do yall think?

I do the same as you. I don`t know why. can`t imagine it makes a significant difference where it is, asuming nothing else out of whack. I guess I always figured at 2-3 o`clock, if there was a difference if straight up, or sideways, well I was 50% right rather than maybe 100% wrong.

It depends on the soil, I bed the trap and where ever the dog ends up is where it stays.

2-3 oclock position just out of habit. Read an article a long time ago i think stating if you had a square pan it would increase your kill zone at the set, made sense to me at the time so started doing it that way and just never really quit.
Out of curiosity ive put them at the 6 oclock position like JC Conners does, the 12 oclock and all in between, never saw a bit of difference where it was put so just started back doing it my normal way that im most comfortable with.

I think it all has to do with the way the jaws shut and the possibility of the foot getting a better catch? That what I think and Im sticking to it for now. ;D

well i guess when it comes rite down to it, i started putting dog at 3:00, cause when i was a little kid, my grand paw, told us to do it that way, because ya always wanted to set a trap so an animal would be walking into jaws not over em. guess it stuck. of course back then all i was catching was possums, skunks, muskrat and a few coon.

I figure about 1/2 come in staight in, the other half walk thru from the side, so prolly a guy is 50% right no matter what. heck, some get hind footed with a trap up tight to the hole. lol, I tell everyone I catch them that way on purpose. my special hind foot set. nothing more embarassing the a coyote getting caught while he us dumping or whizzing on your set, well, if you are the coyote. me, I`m just glad to see him, and not even a tater in my pocket.
