Anyone on here have experience with tree tubes on seedlings? I got 100 paw paw seedlings a month ago and planted most of them in and around my woods but planted a few here by the house. Since they are out in the open I got some tubes for them but kept 3 out in the open to see if I could tell a difference.
Noticed tonight that the leaves on the 3 uncovered ones were starting to turn black but the others still looking good. Went ahead and covered them and am interested to see what happens.

paw paw seedlings absolutely need shade in their youth. could be from a bigger tree or even a board on the southwest side. after the 2nd year they can not only take direct sun, but thrive more in it than in shade. the tubes are definitely a good thing, but not very practical in some areas, like flood plains. we`ve been selling field cultivated paw paws for several years now and done well at it as ourreputation and demand rises. each year for several years nathan and I have been field planting probably 5,000 paw paw seeds . come see our operation some day.

40 gallons of water on seedlings this weekend. Hope that makes a difference.
This what I like to see.

After putting tubes over the three struggling a week ago they seem to be bouncing back.
