the warden told me the state knows about 95% of the seng sold in any year is off property no one has permission to be on. about like coon hunter coons. they just go, like it`s all public ground and the seng belongs to ever finds it first. I think those days are coming to a screeching halt. no more just drive around and say hey that woods looks good lets go ck. it out. not likely many would give permission to look for seng since that ^^&^$%$%# tv show. all state land is closed to digging, so that leaves private with permission only. the state sure sells the heck out of timber on state land however. can you imagine if the state no longer had timber sales on the hoosier natl forest or other parks and state land. problem is it leaves the legal diggers out of business and the trespassers mostly still dig like nothing is illegal. probably lucky if one in a 1,000 get caught. be interesting to hear the stories guys would tell if asked who`s land did you dig this seng off of. not like they could say the dog can`t read like the coon hunters say.

I know what your talking about Doyle. I have permission on at least 15 farms to dig. Even though I don't have time to dig much anymore, I try to keep the farms planted in new crop seed each season. I loose a lot of patches to thieves and since I don't go as much as I used to, my patches are getting raided more each season. I show the farmers where the patches are and tell them it is my way of paying them back for their kindness over the last 30 years. I have started to plant patches that can be seen from the house , if they have a woods close enough to the house. Even the , I have had people come in and dig young seng out of the patches close to the house.

Everybody's out for a quick buck today. Right or wrong, they don't care if it's the by-product of someone else's hard work. We owe them and now we are at the tipping point. More deadbeats and thieves than workers. Sad
