Eaten them many times, they are pretty good, mild in flavor and don't taste anything like they smell. They don't have the nutty flavor of a morel are more similar to frying a button mushroom. Worth a try but don't expect to be wowed. If you like to flour your shrooms when frying you will want to use an egg wash as the flower will not stick to the pheasant back, it all comes off while frying if you don't. I'm in Whitley county, ENE of Fort Wayne, grays and blacks are up here. Woods are getting pretty dry, rain forcasted for the next few days so we hopefully will have a bumper crop come next week. Heading to Cadillac MI area in 2 weeks, usually do pretty well up there. Good luck to all!

Thanks for the info. been working late every night and the lovely Miss M has surgery tomorrow, so maybe this weekend I will give them a try. Unless I find a giant bagful of morels...

MS M WILL BE ON MY MIND DAVE. WE NEVER DID FIND ANY MUSHROOMS HERE. FIRST WAS WET BUT TOO COLD, THEN TIME IT WARMED UP TOO DRY. i BELIEVE IT`S TOO LATE NOW BUT WILL LOOK ONCE MORE IF INDEED IT DOES RAIN. YOU KNOW THOSE WEATHER MEN. THEY MUST BE THIEVING AS THEY SURE ARE LIEING.

She is home and things went well, I will see if she eats my cooking now. Planning on a mushroom hunt this weekend, and trying my new ones.
No windows where I was at today, but a nurse came in and said it was raining. We left at 3 and looked bone dry by then. They are talking like maybe more tonight.

Sure glad it went well for Miss M;wishing her a speedy recovery. Keep your eyes out for a cluster of Honey Mushrooms. They have a very good flavor kinda like the Meadows.

Only found one morel yesterday so I fried up some of the pheasant back. It wasn't bad. Not a lot of flavor. It works this year when the morels are hiding.
M said thanks guys. She's hobbling around pretty good.

I called that lady relative she likes and ask her to come over and clean house and cook while m heals up. she says she`ll move in for a week, or as long as it takes . we never did find any mushrooms this year. we looked good too. the rains and temps just never lined up right. kinda like the fur market this year.
