After seeing the coyotes Doyle posted in "Waxed Dirt" I though boy mine here in Brownsburg look nothing like his. So I thought I would post some photo and see what you guys thought of these. photo by Christopher Lee Helton ©

they are all different here in indiana. red ones like a red fox, black ones, brown ones, mottled and a few nice grey ones. maybe 1 in 20 is nice "A" color. I`ve noticed over the years they are getting more uniform, but still some odd ones. I have a buddy that is a fur buyer and he buys quite a few indiana coyotes. he says he has some that are just as white bellied and just as well furred as my western coyotes, in fact he`s brought them down to show me. from 100 yards away they did look the same. I told him close your eyes and take the back of your hand down the belly and back of my westerns. now do it on yours that you think look the same. his felt like a wild pigs hair and mine soft like cottontail rabbit fur. that`s why no matter how grey or white our coyotes get, they aren`t and never will be worth much. we had a $100 market at one time...alive. and the gubmnt wonders why we are now over run with coyotes and why the economy is in a rescession.

I have several photos I want to post but this only let me post 3. There are some quite different ones I caught, some are obvious coydogs. Would love to catch a black one.

the coydogs are the ones of most value, to taxidermists. the weirder they are the more they are worth .they absolutely must not be shot in the head, or for that matter anywhere, and must have no foot damage. if you don`t have a market, I do. save them whole . pups( dead) of any size in the spring and early summer have a decent market too. as do uterine sacs with pups in them. more than any winter coyote hide from indiana. it is legal to buy sell them dead year `round.
