Hello So, I was reading one of the posts recently and they had a link of a short page on the live market issue and in this issue they mentioned different species for the live market, which was rabbit and racoon. Have any of your running pens ever bought any or asked anything about it? I thought it would be easier for now to raise rabbits and sell them instead. Or have any of you guys messed with these other two critters? Just curious.

I`m not aware of anyone selling or buying live raccoons or rabbits. I think some one was pulling your leg there, probably an anti that hadn`t a clue what they were talking about.

lol, "bait" animals? what is that anyway? our dnr keeps talking about coyotes as bait. what they doing, trolling for alligators with a coyote on a giant treble hook? I hear down on padre island you can hook a hot dog on a treble hook and cast it over a sand dine and retrieve real slow and hook a coyote, or just go bare hooked and snag. I imagine they will get that thick hee in indiana too after the dnr removes any viable market option for the things. maybe we can troll the woodlots and fields with little dogs or cats on a treble hook. but then it`s back to the same old same old, wjhat you going to do with the coyote once you reel him in and there is no market anymore? I suggest an intensive re-stocking program around the homes of various dnr personel, since they say they are no problem here in indiana.

I've been approached several times by Beagle clubs wanting live cottontails. And have been asked about getting raccoons for the local Raccoon Hunter clubs to use for field trials. There is a very small market, but it's too small to really work at it. For that matter I used to get $5 each for pigeons from a local breeder. There is a market somewhere for almost everything.

I knew there was a small market of a live coon or two here or there to a local coon hunter for training purposes. but most have a box trap and plenty of coon access. the prices I heard were less than pelt values.
