Ok, who's got the hot setup for getting the pulp out? This crankin' thing Gayle has is slower than a 7yr itch. Same thing people use to juice tomatoes for canning tomato juice. You can only load a few at a time....surely there is something better?? Loads of them this year.

if you figure a good way let me know. they are just barely starting up here. we have coyotes on the trail cam at the persimmon trees 5 nights in a row now. different coyotes, at least one old and one young, so probably a whole family. to get persimmons we have to go in the afternoon as none are on the ground in the mornings, just seeds.

gameboy, i have less of them on the place this year than normal, but have thought about makeing some jelly out of them, i don't have a processer, but to get enough to make a batch of jelly, couldn't you put em in a pot with just a little water(enough to get them started cooking down) and then run em through a seive after they become runny.
i wouldn't think of it for processing for food, but wanted to share this, there is an ole boy around here that sell acorns and different seeds to the forrestry outfits, and i ask him how he got the seeds out of persimmons a few years ago. and he said he put em in a 35 gal. drum with water and hung a trolling motor in the barrel till they were seperated then strained, i guess where there's a will there's a way.

I use what we call a persimmon press. It has 3 metal legs and is cone shaped down to a radius in the bottom. The cone has small holes all around it and we use something like a rounded piece of wood to run around the press to get the pulp out. It works fair but there is a lot of waste in the pulp . You just can't get it all because the seeds keep the wooden part from getting real close to the metal pulp holder. It will still yield quite a bit of pulp . We make persimmon puddings every year. They are great.

Thanks guys. We have loads of'em. I just step off the porch and pick a large bowl full in the yard in a few minutes. One tree is bent over with the load.

They are great. that's a good description of what i'm calling a seive, i think youll find, if you heat them slowly to a boil for a few minutes, with just an ounce or so of water to start them, they'll create their own juice, then when you run em thru you're persimmon press, you'll get way more of the product, and make it alot easier.

Guy at work uses some kind of powered cone seperator. Think it is made for maters. Cone sits horizontal. Sorry I don't have more info. Be nice if someone brings persimmon pudding to Bob's. Hint, Hint!!!

mark i have a sauce master from rural king for tomatoes works great and always wanted to try persimmons. the crank on mine is held on with 7/16 nut. i took the crank off an put the nut back on an then put a 7/16 socket on a cordless drill. (redneck juicer) now momma cant keep up cutting maters.

ours are still mostly green. just now a few ripe ones starting to fall. still no hens at all, zero. but raining like mad right now so I expect the hens will hatch this week.
