IDNR Coyote Proposed Rule What is going on? Where? When? And What to do?
We could write a book on the happenings on this issue, it has been well documented and FTA Indiana has been there every step of the way defending ALL Trappers interest!
The ISTA has now taken the position (after their last membership meeting) to "OPPOSE" the DNR's Proposed Coyote Rule also!
ALL Trappers are now represented (both groups) and opposed to the Regulation. United we stand!
What is going on (Coyote)?
After many debates, meetings, more meetings and trying to come to an understanding with both sides on the issue it has came to the point that all efforts of an agreement have failed with Trappers & the IDNR on this one issue.
We are going back to page one and moving forward with the Public Comments and the NRC Meeting (this is where the Proposed Rule can be stopped or Passed).
In a nutshell the IDNR is trying to trump Indiana Code with their Coyote Proposed Rule. If we allow this to happen then what is next? This has been made into a “Live” summertime coyote issue, but in reality it impacts the Furbearer Regulations now and in the future. It seems there is a movement from within the DNR to make it hard or are taking steps to eliminate the sale of Indiana wildlife for some reason (this could snowball into the Fur Market). Coyote sales are the first deffense, we let this fall and its one more nail in the coffin.
Where? and When?
Two public comment hearings are scheduled for the Coyote Proposed Rule:
Thursday, April 24 at 6 pm (EDT) - McCormick's Creek State Park in the Canyon Inn, Sycamore Room, near Spencer, Indiana
Thursday, May 1 at 6 pm (EDT) - Mounds State Park Visitor Center in Anderson, Indiana
What to do?
GO to one or BOTH of the Meetings and show your Support for all Trappers in the State. Say “NO” to the Proposed DNR Coyote Rule. We need a good number of Trappers to attend. This is important to our future.
FTA & ISTA MEMBERS PLEASE ATTEND!!
PLEASE BRING OR ASK FARMERS TO ATTEND and or landowners that have had coyote problems.
