But I think I got there a little too late and it was too far gone. There are 3 others that are smaller but in the same shape but there are also 2 that are just starting. This is a huge white oak that survived a roadway with a fence. (hint, hint) You can see the white spores she's shootin' out on the leaves. Enough hen for a Bob Get-together all in one.

Wish I could find one of those dang things. Have been finding lots of different mushrooms, but no hens.

there should be some good left in it. but better picked a week ago. remmber that tree for next year.

Think fence rows, log roads, old county roads....tree will always have something wrong with it in some way or other and most of the time they are pretty good size.

That tree has been checked every year several times a season for the last 4 and only one year, it didn't produce. Trouble is, it's a mile off the dang road.

Don, the biggest oak you can find, partly dying. Check 10 of them and you should find some.

You pull the "fonds" off, clean and use your favorite breading and deep fry. You can pan fry too. Even the stump is good on the Hen of the Woods. You will have to come to Lakota's cookout next year and you'll see how it's done.
