Does any else harvest Walnuts for sale? I'm trying to find a more back friendly way to harvest the nuts. Old age is getting to me I guess.

Hammond's has about 10 sites around the state. Here's the url for the site locator. At $10 a hundred that's $200.00 a ton or $0.10 a pound. And them darn things are heavier than you thing green. I don't mind the harvest just the wear and tear on my old back. I need a contraption that scoops them up without digging up the grass. A couple thousand can get to ya'. www.hammonsproducts.com/hulling_locations.asp?ie_key=64AB0795F8F04004A9071E352A901D12

Got to agree with Bob, unless you’re doing it for the excise it’s not worth it. Better off flipping burger or something. If you lookin to be outdoors I'm sure a local farmer could use some help.

Like Bob we have nuts everywhere, and I'd as soon sell 'em as anything. Have to pick 'em up to get around the yard. The Dep.of Ag. folks have a nice paper that shows why there are no real commercial walnut farms around. For most of the reasons mentioned. I may have to invent something for the tractor that will roll them into the bucket like a golf ball retriever.

i got to feedin the squirrels last fall and got them trained to gather walnuts for me...no really. then i made me a series of wire yokes so i could control how they moved across the surface of the ground. they didn't like the yokes too well. there was alot of resistance when i fastened the yokes over their shoulders. finally got about 50 of them hooked up and gathering. i just about broke even due to the cost of stitches i had to get at the vets office...

I've got a Amish guy here that buys Blk walnuts. He's got the machine that hulls them. I can fill my truck heaping full in about 3 to 4 hours. I've got one of those rollers ( nutwizards) makes picking up nuts easy. I've got people calling me to get their nuts. I get about $75 -$90 for a truck load. $25/hour minus gas not bad $$...

I may just do that if they don't run Pedro back to Mexico first.

How many trees ya got Bob...size of the trees? Might have to work something out with Amish guy, do you have somewhere to put excess hulls, might be worth jacking with, heck-- might want to get your own machine and couple of mexicans......sell direct to place in MS.

When mid- Sept. comes around we'll have to talk then, I'll try to locate a machine either here or one closer to your place... Walnuts seem to go in cycles, producing every other yr. was this yr a producer for you? Or is it going to be this yr??
