I only sold $129 of fur and they took out $29! called $12 "express". $12 more "commision" , $5 for a magazin I don`t want, and another 65 cents "hst". what`s up with this tim? that`s too much. I could make or lose a million dollars a day and it still would gripe me on $29 on a $129 sale.

You don't have to get the magazine, let em know you don't want it. The express charge, they charge $12 no matter how many skins you send. I think the commision rate they charge is 11% of your total fur sold. I have no idea what the hst is.

I`d think the selling commission would be what pays the other expenses. the other place never charged me for anything but tumbling or a cites ck. and I had no cites or long fur, just a few rats and mink. well, live and learn. time the 7.50 rat turns into a $6 rat there is no advantage shipping vs sell local. so it`s get gouged on selling fees, or go to the other joint and get $2 coyotes. potato /putato.

Got to chuckle about this. I am also very curious what these express fees are for??
NAFA charges the commission (9% if a member of the WFSC) then drumming fees for long fur and of course the CITES fees for otter & bobcat.
This years commission is suppose to be reduced down to 6% since they made so much money last year.

apparently it is for the agent driving around picking the stuff up. just guessing as no one has said. I thought the selling commision the agent got a % already. this $12 express fee is new. no more fur than I had I would not have shipped had I known in advance about the $12. unless I have a lot to ship, like 1,000 pelts to where the 12 buck fee gets down to a penny a hide, it`s silly to ship small quantities. there are still good direct buyers that can beat the auction houses anyway. no biggy, just another 12 bucks I didn`t expect. 12 bucks makes or breaks no one. say one gas station tacked on $12 to every tank of gas, would you buy gas there anymore? I can see the sign now, gas regular $3.47.9 a gallon, plus $12 a tank. even if it is a 3 gallon tank for the lawnmower. but if you don`t know about the 12 bucks till you go in in pay , because no notice on the sign, you`d think same as me. well hurumph!

I wish FHA would be a little more agressive with soliciting fur from the midwest and condense their auctions to incease the volume that they offer (and lower their overhead).
I know it would cost me money over NAFA but I would support them if they ran a route through Missouri just so NAFA wasn't the only game in town.

I`d a been a sad blue trapper if I`d shipped my cats coons and coyotes to either house this year. would have cost me about 20 grand loss over selling in the country. granted, most of it was timing, but it is what it was, 20g is a lot of money to drop to help out an auction house. that $125 of rats and mink only cost me about 50 bucks over selling in the country. I don`t know why I shipped anything. I guess because I like tim and alexis and I like fha. but monetarily it doesn`t make sense, at least didn`t this year. robert, I bet if you averaged the dollars year in year out, not much difference in the houses if you remove the timing factor.

Bob, Honestly the few country buyers around here (including Groenwalds) have not been able to compete with NAFA ever (I mean EVER).
Possibly on the western fur (coyotes and bobcats) a trapper could do like you and top the auctions but not often. The flip side is grey fox and those years at NAFA doing twice as well as in the country.
The southern coon, bobcats and otter there just isn't a country buyer that can compare to NAFA. Those southern coon normally average $8.50 to $14.00 at NAFA, getting that out of midwestern coons from the local buyers is no small chore!

That is 20 bucks a yr out of ur pocket (but get "free" shipping...lol). Alexis usually waves the shipping charge to furbuyers & new shippers (the 12 bucks)...she see's zero of that anyway. The $12 bucks for shipping goes to FHA not her. She works 100% off comish. When she fills out the shipper report (that goes to FHA) she will put a note on the side if waving the shipping fee. i usually review these to make sure she didn't miss any, but didn't the last pick ups...my bad. We will give ya 12 bucks next time we see you, or trade you equal value....hmmm what 2 trade... Maybe some used coyote cages..ha. Disclaimer: there is some room for each agents to work how they want within reason (alexis chooses not to get the shipping fees charged to shippers) other agents may be diff. I'm just glad we have choices with what to do & how to market fur. I wish the best to you & everyone else on getting the most they can for the hard work. We feel FHA is the "good" guy out of her limited choices...that is why Alexis has worked with them. I am sure she could have went for the nafa gold/volume/etc...but she didn't. She signed on with the company that she felt represented her as an individual/person.

cash will trade fine. or just have fha add it to my next ck. that still hasn`t come yet for the last sale. don`t need any coyote cages. you gotta admit tim, if I`d sent my cats , coons ,and coyotes to fha, or nafa for that matter, I`d a took about a 20 grand beating this year. then I guess 12 bucks wouldn`t matter. the 12 bucks won`t break me or make me, but it shouldn`t fha either. as far as nafa, if you want to get down to nitty gritty, those shippers are getting charged 6% for their 100 bucks. so 9% instead of 11% for " free" is no great shakes at all. I shipped what I did because I like you and fha both, but if it`s a hassle for you ,or me, or you need the $12 extra on top of the 9% commission, the $5 magazine, and some other fee on just a $129 sale, never mind.

CK ON MY 50 DOLLAR BEaver that I`m getting $39 for too. something not right there. I can afford about anything I want but $5 loss on that one beaver gripes me worse than pay $40 grand for a truck on account of that wasn`t the deal. maybe math error on their part but $10 plus commission on fitty bucks is not 9%. stuff like that is why guys won`t ship .
