last friday I pulled all my 1/8 cable restraints here on the farm for coyotes since no longer need them alive, but want to catch all I can get off the property. I leave them up until they start having pups in the spring. Last year in the snow...I would see where they traveled from hole to hole and look at snares and keep going until they found a spot I had not reset. So I knew they were seeing them.
Well as I pulled the 1/8, I hung 3/32 in there place....got 8 yotes since Saturday with smaller cable...and only one died lol,lol.... Its hard to believe that the difference in cable size has made the difference it has. Also hard to believe that many yotes still around here. last year caught about 40 and so far this year i'm up to around 20. Usually don't set any footholds here but may have to try and run a few.
yote i got yesterday also only had three legs...rear leg gone at the hip. Snared my first Turkey of the year today and released him just fine...perfect neck catch but not dead...may have spooked him into it on my way there...snare wasnt even bent. the 1/8 cable the turkeys usually just knocked them down or stepped thru.
last year after xmas the yotes really started moving through the farm...guess looking for a new home. looking forward to that again, don't think it is possible to get rid of them all..they just keep coming! It at least gives me something to do and look forward to while the season has been a bust.

That's interesting about the cable.
The three legged coyote was most likely from a rifle shot. In the past animal rights groups have lied about traps and what they do to animals.
Now they lie about what is done with the animals after they're caught. The live market is the best proof that modern trapping and snaring are live capture techniques that don't harm the animal.
None of the activists will be happy until animals aren't captured or killed and it doesn't matter if that is a trapped coyote, a pheasant released for hunting, or a chicken raised for food.

Tony, I usually spray paint them with a tan, black brown, etc. it blends them and helps break up the outline more by using more than one color. If setting along old fences, usually have some on hand that I spray a rust color, works great.
Getting cold and snow coming in the morning, thru out 4 sets here on farm to go with snares...probably catch my foxes that I try to avoid by using snares only...cant believe the yotes dont get them all anyway.

you`ll do pretty good for awhile, then lose 4-5 in a row and get the chits of 3/32 fast. all the killum boys don`t understand they are chewing all night if not dead. big difference.

Tony, They will not chew through 7x19 1/8 cable. The 7x19 3/32......they will be gone quick.
If i had a choice between 1x19 3/32 and 7x7 3/32, i would take the 1x19, for coyotes. It has a 2-way twist. One layer will twist one way and the outside layer will twist another. HOWEVER, this cable is much more brittle IMHO. On a 24 hour check, it will work. For a kill snare, it will work. For a live snare, it may work. Use a high tie and the chewing will not be as bad. Stake him and he will chew through. FWIW Steve

I even had a 1/8th chewed thru finally last year , on a 24 hr live catch line, and he was an old mangy sob. he didn`t even tear the area up. just started chewing. I know because I caught him back in a steel trap a few days later still wearing the necklace. but that is the only 1/8th chew thru I ever had in my life. 3/32 is why I set nothing but 1/8th now. I`m embarassed to say how many I lost before I threw all those &(&(&&( 3/32 in the dump.

The 1x19 is the only way to go for cable.
The 7x19 is the worst possible cable live catching coyotes, they will chew through it like a cotton rope!
