I met an older guy at the fur buyers maybe 30 years ago talked about square coons. he said back in the 30`s if you found a coon track on a sand bar or in the mud you wiped it out as they were that scarce and that valuable and you didn`t want anyone else to see that track. you looked all summer and quick as he was sale-able you tracked and killed him like he was the last wolf on earth. this was at nelson teeters. never did get the guys name but he had some good stories. I guess we all can tell about the live market before our dnr turned and sided with antis.

If you count coon 4 and 5 a year Dad said he had the best dog around and it was unheard of to get that many coon. The dog was stolen so we had them even then. Dad put up a pic and reward if I find it I will post it.

dave you are up too early. lol, guess I am too. I`m trying to figure out what we should eat for dinner tonight ,and tomorrow night too. I`m looking at doyles pictures and thinking I bet in that carp picture the trees in the background are doyles woods today. just think if any of us had the idea to plant seng or walnut trees when those pictures were taken .

doyle showed me a portion of his woods he bought as a bare eroded used up field I think he said 40 years ago. you`d never guess it was once an open field. doyle has done a real good job with his land. I always figured if everyone left this earth in better shape while we are here how great it would be. doyle has done his share and the share of plenty others. I see that and am in awe.

Correct on all counts. All the stuff I am planting now, I wish I had done 35 years ago. But someone someday will enjoy the fruits of our labor. Doyle sure has done a good job.

only old men are wise enough to plant trees knowing that they will never live long enough to sit under the shade of those trees. we all hope our blood keeps the farm and continues the efforts. but the good part is even if not, anyone that would want any of our places probably would appreciate and care for it just as well. I can just see some kid saying dad, look how all these trees in the woods look like they grew in a row. and the dad says son, no here id what happened.......and then the son says dad, why is out woods the only one with paw paws, persimmons, shellbark and other nuts and all these native flowers and everyone elses woods are just grapevines and garlic mustard?

I think the sad thing is most people have no idea what the tree's are deer hunters will put there stands in a walnut 8 out of ten.I have one that has a tree stand growing in it.When people ask me to hunt and I show them this and say no stands nailed or left in the trees. If they argue about it there gone.
