I`m happy. kinda mad at some folks like the pres and some trappers clubs. havn`t found any mushrooms yet. no puffballs or chickens . kathy and I each shot one squirrel this morning and loving this late sept weather in august. fur market kinda stinks, but most of my life since the early 80`s it has stunk the same, so no biggy. hate it all the ash trees are dying but my walnuts are getting a free tsi.

I'm happy. Good weather, the pantry and freezer are full from the garden, and filling up with squirrels. I take a walk through the woods every couple days and just look at stuff. Life is good!

we started a fun deal. we notice box turtles we see in about the same area of the woods all the time, so nathan googles what turtles eat and we started a turtle feeding station. set out a buried container of water and place melon scraps and misc feed at it every day. for 6 days in a row we see box turtles there eating. also have some water snakes that sun on the bridge you can get a few feet away and they just look at you. we started feeding them small fish and they are plumb tame now. same way with the coon in the hollow tree out by the pond. all the garbage goes out there every day. the pee pen leftovers are feeding the possums and coyotes in the north field and disappear every night. all kind of fun stuff. if you don`t count the dead ash trees. even that will be fun seeing what nature replaces them with in the bottoms. I`m guessing silver maple, mulberry, box elder , hackberry, scarce walnut, and cottonwood. been fun watching the beaver dam go up at the bridge. when you all come to the cook out look 20 feet to the right when on the bridge and there is the dam. if they don`t get to messing with the trees it will still be there, or a big flood doesn`t wash it out. well, we don`t mind if they peel the ash trees now at least.imo it`s like dave says, ignore the outside world and life is pretty good here on the farm.

Same here I go to the farm and work by day and all is great and relaxed. Then home and watch the news and my day go's down hill fast.

You are right about the new, nothing but bad news. Work is a downer, I unwind on the ride home. do a few things around the property and alls good again. If I'm cutting hay and the swallows are swarming overhead picking off bugs, quail busting out, it's very relaxing, calming. Can't call that work.

havn`t seen or heard a quail in 25 years. as a kid we stalked them, whistling to them and they`d whistle back. we`d get 5 feet away, finally spot them and shoot them with out bb guns. as a kid we new nothing about seasons or lisc so all summer quail, song birds, frogs, turtles, field corn, if we saw it we ate it. all summer was one giant camp/cook out. now I guess folks pay to send kids to summer camp where they learn crafts and environmental brain washing. no stealing green apples or shooting robins to cook on a spit.

We only have a handful left. Couldn't believe it when we bought the place. Have heard or seen a quail since the mid 70's. Winter of 77 knocked the snot out of them I guess. I make sure to leave a strip on bottom land for them, mowed once in a while to keep the trees down. Also always have some pasture not hayed, cost me money but I enjoy the wildlife.

Bob I grew up the same we had the Tippecanoe river make a horse shoe around us so 1/2 mile in 3 directions and we was at the river. I would ride the bus to school then walk back to the river and fish all day. Always had sting and hooks in my bill fold. Come to think of it maybe that's why I didn't do good in school I was fishing.lol Live was and is good well most times sure could be a lot worst.

well we are getting old. here is how I know...#1 we mow even when it doesn`t need it yet. #2 not only do we decide what`s for dunner tonight, we decide what`s for dinner tomorrow night too. #3 stuff that used to bother us in our youth we don`t give a 2nd thought as when you been beat up ,run over, shot, broke down to pennys, and stabbed , spilling the milk just doesn`t register anymore. this weather sure is nice. rained most of the summer and now cooled off like fall. I guess back hot next week but that`s ok. no squirrels today, but we both had shots and just missed clean.

I'm still hearing quail almost every morning, barred owls, rain crows and not hearing interstate...all quiet at night except for Katydids. Love this place....the view and sunsets are great and all is well. How's that! Happiness is a state of mind..a choice and yours for the taking if ya want it.

this cool weather we been leaving the windows open at night too, and like hearing the night bugs ans owls. I`ve seen marks place and it`s a beauty. I`d like to sift some dirt around that old rock formation back in the woods at marks. it looks like ancient indian housing to me. not settlers or white man, but red man.
