What is the correct name for "beaver fleas" and how come only 1-2 in the same colony may have them while the others don't?? I've caught otters that run together too and only 1-2 out of a group of 4-5 may have them... Always wondered about that...

I have no idea. I used to trap beaver, even made a ms. trip back before it was fashionable. but no clue on the fleas. now I only trap beavers if they are on my own place, or someone will pay me. speaking of which I see another small fresh sapling cut at the bridge just 2 nights ago. so guess I`m a beaver trapper again whenever I get caught up on farm work ,or it gets to bothering me just knowing the sob is there. I just can`t stand to have a beaver or a coyote living on me. or a flea. remember that guy that defended o.j.? the lawyer, flea bailey

Did a little research and found out they are not really fleas but beetles! Couldn't find nothing on why they are on some and not others... Seems they only eat dead skin and are basically host specific... No threat to humans.. I guess some beavers are just tastier than others..!!
