Well picked some pretty nice ones today on 2 trees We got 10 lbs. off the two trees. Will post some pictures tomorrow if I get time. The one hen had quite a few maggot holes, but was usable after cutting the bad out. The frost didn't seem to ruin them.

Me and Gayle hiked all my trees yesterday. Sadly all we got was much needed exercise.

I know what you mean. Almost all the trees we found them on last year, don't have a thing on them this year.

Good thing I had a tree hit with some big hens around it or I would have had a bad year. Most of my good trees have been a big zero this season so far anyway. I do have one that I haven't picked yet on a new tree and it's still growing but slow. Still tight leaves and charcoal in color so letting it grow.

My neighbor has huge oak trees in his yard and he was out burning leaves so I stopped and asked if he had seen any strange mushrooms around those trees. He said he didn't think so but I was welcome to look. Sure enough, there was a little one around a 5'based black oak. I said "man, you need to take this and fry it up, you won't believe how good it is". He said "I ain't eatin' none of that @%! but you are welcome to have all you want...go for it! Well, I tried! Another comment I have gotten: "I only eat mushrooms from the store".

Picked what I thought was the last one today and it was about a 4lb'er. Looked at another tree along my driveway and there was grapefruit sized one there so I'll give it until Tuesday and cut it. I guess that will be it for this year because it will be in the high teens here that night. That will kick the fur in gear.

Those were Sulfur Shelfs and we call them Chicken mushrooms. Picked fresh, they are very good and actually taste like chicken. They should be soft, usually yellow and bright orange...even a little red sometimes. Also, not the best off of Oak trees due to tanic acid but if smokin' fresh, I doubt it matters.
