Long process...we are ready now (I think...lol) we finally got everything nailed down. The only thing slowing us now is doing volume (which have worked out and moved forward). We have produced a good finsihed amount (those have been sold or used for demo's/ trial fleshers). Have went though 3 design changes/upgrades to get where we are at (that took about 2 yrs). We have a run of 30 that should be ready for NTA and sold our first real run of 16 at the FTA Nat....after NTA we are running 100 and then up from there. Funding is always an issue, we are lucky at starting this up in a down economy as the groups involved in this project are hungry for work. Its a great knife and we are proud of it, that is why we wanted it to be right before full blown runs.
This is our "press release"
Steel Rose Knives are proud to announce the launching of its series of top end quality fleshing knives. These products were developed and tested by Tim Rose. Tim is an experienced trapper and fur processor located in Indiana, the heart of Midwestern United States trapping county. Over 2 years in design work went into this flesher and everyone one that has used these knives have given them 2 thumbs up (from novice trappers to long time fur buyers). Steel Rose is committed to offering quality high end products. Every line of Steel Rose Knives are machine processed then hand finished and inspected for quality. Steel Rose is currently offering fleshing knives of the same design made with two high quality Steels.
1095 Carbon Steel- this is a high carbon, great quality - heat treated steel - hardened to Rockwell 50. This steel is commonly used as spring steel offering excellent durability and good flexibility. This material (1095) will provide performance and durability at an affordable price. Hardwood hickory handles & high end cutlery pins finish this well balanced knife off. This knife is the twin to the 420 Stainless.
420 Stainless Steel- Do we need to say more? This is a high quality - heated treated - stainless steel hardened to Rockwell 50. This steel will remain bright and clean with little care and maintenance over the life of the flesher. This flesher was designed and built to compete directly against the high end Canadian fleshing knives. Steel Rose Fleshers have aprox. twice the steel as our competitors and is longer to fit large logs to narrow beams with the proper flex needed to maintain overall contact of the hide. This knife is built to last a lifetime for the normal trapper and will out last other high end knives in its class 2 to 1 for custom put-up processors.
All Steel Rose fleshing knives are designed with special blood grooves to customize stiffness and flexibility. The standard knives contain 2 grooves for an average level of flex that we believe to be at its operating best. Grooves can be removed or added to increase flexibility and or add stiffness. We believe our fleshers to be years ahead in design of any other on the market today!
The Steel Rose is manufactured in the USA! Pricing: 1095 Steel Rose $79.99 each 420 Stainless Steel Rose $129.99 each

Tim would the 1095 knife be quicker/easier to resharpen? I assume the stainless version would hold an edge longer but I have a heck of a time sharpening anything stainless.

The problem with ease of sharpening is that you loose the edge quicker. They both work hand and hand. Both Steels are the same rockwell (hardness). Both should be aprox the same (to sharpen) as they are "thru-hardended". The way I sharpen (keep the edge) is by running a "steel" across it as soon as I feel need (which with the new flesher was at about 100 coon, then it was every 25 or so to keep the same edge.
I would be able to show anyone within 5 mins how to keep his edge with a "steel" that has zero experience doing so. Greg (nafa) skinner said he got his too sharp and was scary....lol (he worked it as it was an one of the first from design #3 that was used all last fur season as a tester knife)
